FAIRFAX, VIRGINIA – Last week, Fairfax County’s Board of Supervisors recognised the Centre’s leadership at the local city hall for its commitment to empowering young voters and promoting in civic engagement.
The recognition came after the Centre’s commitment to pursuing a world of youth representation in the political process, through initiatives from leading federal legislation in Congress for voter registration to receiving global mandates for civics education in developing nations.
Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeff McKay declared that “the Centre has played a vital role in organising voter education campaigns, promoting voter registration – particularly in underrepresented communities, and increasing voter turnout, contributing to a more active and engaged community”.
The Centre was founded in 2023 by a group of high school students from the Fairfax County area. Executive Director Samad Quraishi remarked that “we all too often forget [that] Washington D.C. is right across the river; we’re incredibly grateful to live where we are and use our opportunities to fight for other young people like us worldwide”.
To close, Director Quraishi expressed his gratitude towards the Board and declared that civics education is a “necessary avenue for creating a more representative and safe tomorrow”. The resolution reflects the Centre’s persistence, effectiveness, and unwavering commitment to fighting for the empowerment of young persons in the public affairs process.
